oil dipstick tube

Hi, the oil dipstick tube fell out of my '98 5.4. It came off right at the base and it does not look like it "rotted" off. I was wondering if it could be slipped back in with a new o-ring or something or if I should hold it on with JB Weld?

negative on the JB weld. Just get a new one from the dealer and put it in. Mine was rusted and broke off about half way up. IIRC, it was a reasonable price for the new one, but I would have to go through my receipts.

Thanks, I was thinking the JB was probably not such a great idea, but thought I'd throw it out there

exhaust.... maybe. for oil.... not so much. I wanna say off the top of my head that the new tube was around $15.00, but again, I would have to confirm. I know it was reasonable, anyway.

I replaced my dipstick tube a few years ago. After a certain amount of vibration they break off at the base.

IIRC it was about $25 at the dealer. Part comes with a new o-ring. Easy fix!
