265/75r16 or 285/75r16

i planned on doing big things to my truck, but i decided to keep cost down and save my money buy just doing a simple level kit and AT tires. but i dont know what tire size to choose with 2" level. 265 or 285. i have 16x7 rims so if can fit 285's will it fit on a 16x7? thanks

Dang everyone beats me to posting my on thread haha.

Like he said^ you should be fine with the 285's, the only possible rubbing I could think of would be at the lower corner of the valence when turning over bumps, but with an a/t tire it might not happen at all.

And welcome to the site man!

285s will look like they belong there. What tire have you chosen?

I went from 265s to 285s on my 99 F150 and I sort of kick myself in the a** for doing it. I have 3.55 gears and the 5.4, and let me tell you, it LOVES GAS!!!!! If you are using it for daily driving, you will grow to regret it. You also have to get re calibrated or the shift points are pretty well off, and the speedometer is affected. The 285s look great on the truck though, and there is absolutely NO rubbing anywhere with them, and with the wider tread face, you get better traction. There are pro's and con's to going bigger, just make sure its what you want

thanks for the welcome! but i think i'm just going to stick to the 265s. i'm sure 285 looks great but i need the gas mileage cause i drive a TON. and as for tires i'm trying to decide on those now. I've been looking at the grabber at2, cooper at3, falken rocky mountain, or the dynapro atm. i'm kinda liking how the at2 looks but every one of them has really good reviews and looks so its a tough choice.

I have dynapro atm on the truck now, its a good tire until they wear down past 6/32, then they are just plain noisy and no good traction. I found out the hard way that with the dynapro, you must keep the truck in perfect alignment or the tires become very loud.

in my humble opinion

I went 285's with my 4.6/3.55 and did not see a change in mileage/anything but at 75 if you need to jerk the wheel, you don't bobble back an forth like the yellow sticker on the visor warns(265's bobbled on me)....... stance looks better too... I did snip the corner off of the bumper trim inner piece...about a 1/4in of material....no big deal.

Get what you like.... focus on your needs. If you tow/haul a lot often get LT's if not you really only need a P rated tire...(save you $) if you are not off road often...you don't need mudders, like wise if you aren't at the strip...you don't need slicks... at's/atr's come p rated...

and welcome but be warned....everyone here has an opinion so be specific with your questions....lol sometimes the hardcore guys and the **** guys don't always get along..... but it is usually pretty entertaining....

When you change anything suspension wise whether it be lifting or lowering or even just replacing tie rods your gonna need a new alignment.

With 2" your at the max of where you can be without needing aftermarket upper control arms to get it aligned too, so your definitely going to need to get one.

see the thing is, is that my dad is worried about a bunch of stress on a 15 year old front end and i can see where he is coming from. i'm 18 and all my buddies are riding around with some type of mod on there vehicle so i've saved up my money and i could do a lot of stuff to mine if i wanted but i've decided to keep it simple and classic and cheap (money wise not product). but i dont want all that stress on the front end. this is why i keep battling myself on what to do. I wanna be cool but at the same time safe so idk what i need to do.
