97 F150 Turn Signal Won't Auto Cancel
Hello All,
The turn signals in my '97 will not shut off automatically after a turn. I wanted to ask if all I need is a new multi-switch or are there parts on the steering column that could be causing the problem?
I've read that the canceling cam can be replaced sometimes...anybody have any luck with that approach? Thanks!

The cancelling cam can be replaced, but the most lilkely culprit is one or both of the arm(s) that are on the switch itself is broken. They are pretty fragile and tend to get broken when trying to engage the turn signal when the steerng wheel is not turned far enough off center to engage the turn signal without hitting the cam. They can also get broken if you engage the turn signal and manually disengage it. It is plastic and like all plastics tend to get brittle with age. I have had this happen in a couple of different Ford vehicles. Good luck!
Thanks for the info!
So is the broken plastic something that should be easy to see if I pull the switch? Sounds like that's probably what it is. I accidentally turned the wheel too far when it was disconnected from the steering box and I think it might have broken then.

same thing happened to my 91. You'll have to pull the steering wheel, which requires a puller. then the plastic switch assembly, on the 91 - not sure if it the same on yours - has a wiring harness that snakes down the steering column to a connector. YOu have to de-wire the old harness from the connector half, and insert the wires of your new harness into the connector half.
Unless they changed it from 97 to 2001, you shouldn't need to pull teh wheel. I replaced the whiole multi switch assembly on my Expd, and only pulled the key cylinder, upper, and lower covers.
