1999 4.6L 4x4 XLT questions

I apologize in advance if my terminology is wrong : )

I have a 1999 4.6L 4x4 XLT with 100,000 miles and the passenger side exhaust manifold is cracked as well as it is now running rough when it rains.

I figured that I may as well replace the stock manifolds with headers and a new exhaust system as it is all still original and I live in Canada.

While doing so I will also be doing full plugs, wires and coil over "thingy's"

Quotes I have received here (2 places)
exhaust manifold - $150 plus labour 2hrs @ $75/hr
cat back exhaust - $500 plus labour 2hrs @ 75/hr
Plugs, wire and coil overs $100 / cylinder 2hrs @ 75/hr

I am able to buy parts online way cheaper than this ie Direct bolt Headers $200 for the pair.

1st Question - Do I need to buy the Coil over plug wires as well as plug wires?
2nd Question - Do I need to purchase the "block thingy's" that the plug wires are coming out of to go back to the plugs in the cylinder head?

In all total if I drop the truck off at the shop and say go to it, it will cost me approx $2,000 (Just a single manifold)

If I buy the parts and have the same $75/hr place do the work it will cost me
approx $900 (Headers)

Any and all advice is appreciated and thanks in advance.
If you need any clarification let me know

There's really only 2 different ways these engines get their spark to the plugs. You will either have 1 main coil pack with 8 wires going to the individual spark plugs, or what's called a Coil On Plug (COP) where 8 coils are literally mounted on the plugs.

97-99 4.6L used coil packs

00+ used COP's.

You will be buying a coil pack and a wire set.

Plugs and wires should be all you need for the ignition. With out knowing where you are nor the brand of cat back it is hard to tell if the price is good. If you supply the headers don't forget that the driver side manifold has to be removed and the header installed. Are you installing shorties or long tube? Shorties will bolt right up to your exhaust where long tubes will need custom work.

Thanks for the responses.

I do not have the Coil on Plug type.

I have the coil packs with wires.

As for the headers they are short and I would hope that the shop we choose would know to put 2 on. : )

Again, thank you for your assistance it is greatly appreciated
