I got the dreaded manifold exhaust leak that i noticed last week. Over the last week it has gotten alot worse already an sounds HORRIBLE until the truck is warmed up...but I hate exhaust leaks! Anyway, I have been searching online for two days an have found some shortie headers, but im wanting to get long tubes...the only set i found for my truck is 800 bucks. Am i looking in the wrong places or what?? Where is the best place to look for exhaust components online? I have a 97 4x4 4.6L

 

Are the Headers for a 5.4 and an 4.6 the same? I found a set of Pacesetter long tubes that say 5.4/4.6. I assumed they would be different but maybe not? Anyone have a clue?

 

They might in the exhaust forum vs here lol. They're always talking about this stuff.

 

everything in that forum was bout the newer body style an i found alot for them...but for the 97-03 i cant find anything. Thats why i did it here

Actually there's more on the 97-03 trucks in that forum thru search, - IF search works currently ? Not sure, it's been on the blink.

But yea, now a days, there is more on the newer models. Best thing to do is call Pacesetter or OBX directly. The 2wd is an easy install for that model, - but the 4wd may not work at all. People have succeeded tho, -some haven't without beating the snot out of them w/hammer and repositioning the forward O2's.

Personally, I like Pacesetter.

 

I had no problems using the OBX kit with the resonators. They sound great with the Borla Xr-1, but I would get them fully welded as soon as you can. I just used clamps for the pipes, and I am always chasing small exhaust leaks. I aim to weld 'em up this summer.

i found 70-2225 i believe was the pacesetter number for my truck online for 280 bucks i think thats what im goin with. An 2 high flow cats.

 

enjoy pulling the stock manifolds! ive looked at mine, and im scared to even touch em, so im just gonna deal until it gets unbearable, or i decide the truck needs a new heart, then rebuild the 4.6 and keep it around so i have a numbers matching truck! the studs from the manifolds to the cats on mine rusted off on the drivers side... BLA! oh well thats why i got a car. Good luck to you or the exhaust man!

 

Yeah my studs rusted in half too...my father in law has a lift an his buddy is a mechanic so were gonna do it ourselves since the dealership is the only place around here that will even do it an they wanted 1500 just to replace the manifolds, thats not including the cats...its gonna be a fun im sure haha

 

that is damn near half of what i paid for my truck! i agree! do it yourself! If and when i do it, im just pulling the heads, and swapping PI heads in instead, swapping mine for better ones! i wont need to deal with that crap! but id have new cams in too... i got a chuckle when we went by the drag strip and i said, id like to do a before and after run on my truck, pre-rebuild and post build. Dad turned and looked at me and said, "NO, how about a run across the scale at the scrapyard!"
