93 F150 Manual transmission whine

I have a 1993 Ford 4x4 XLT 5.0 liter that belonged to my dad. I bought it from him a few years back but had to put it in storage for 5 years while i served my overseas tour. The problem i am having is i get a whine comming from what i think is the tranny. its comes when i accelerate on road but dissapears when i push in the clutch or let it coast in nuetral. as soon as it goes back into gear its starts back up. i flushed my Tranny fluid and transfer case is topped off along with the diffs. any ideas?

Try the "pre 97" section or "v8" section bud

Sounds like throwout bearing. My '00 was starting to make the same noise (same transmission).

Crappy MSOD tranny and yes you should post this in either the trans or pre 97 but the MSOD transmissions are the same for the 97+ trucks. I had one in a 90 f150 I had for a short time. I hated it. If your otherwise not having issues it could be the throwout bearing like said above. I would wait until the clutch goes bad to fix it. Throwout bearings can be noisy for along time..

Throw out bearing shouldn't make any noise with your foot off the pedal.

Is the noise in all foward gears? It sounds like a trans bearing to me.

Did the fluid that came out of the trans, when you changed it, have shinny flakes in it?

its had some minor black flakes in it but nothing to serious from what i saw. the sound is really noticable in first and second. its louder with higher RPM's by the time i get to third its really not noticable due to low RPMS. The best way to describe the sound would be a little car in top end side of reverse

Could just be dried up crap on the bearings and gears from sitting so long. It may wear off. Drive it a bit and keep a close ear on things, if it gets louder then you probably have bearing issues. The black flakes are probably from sitting un-moved for so long.

That would be my $0.02. Sure someone else will chime in soon.

Good luck, and Thank you for your service!

Actually that's probably clutch material. Yea, it's normal. Metal wears finer in a trans usually, - like resins that collect at the pan magnet.

Drop the fluid again, and refill with a full synthetic ATF.
