27.5 mpg hwy avg! 4x4 4.6L 3.55 gear ratio

So today I took my first little road trip with my 98 f150 after adding additional mods ( Magnaflow cat back, JBA shorty headers , eddelbrock throttle body and MSD ignition) . It was 98% hwy over 119 miles of driving and I drove 65mph nearly the entire time and used a little under 4.5 gallons of gas . Just thought I would share with you all. In the past the best I had done was 25 mpg prior to the above mods that was with an E fan UD pulley Edge programmer and K&N COI . In case your wondering I generally avg 16 mpg in town and a combined 18.5 city and hwy ( the stop and go is a major killer on a 6000lb truck .)

Will be upgrading my Edge Evolution to a Gryphon with custom tunes soon ( if they ever answer their phone

I find that very hard to believe. How were you able to measure how much gas was used?

No B.S. here

Nope no BS here. I filled up before I left let the pump click off on its own I drove out from Burnsville MN to New Richmound WI and back filled up at the same pump same gas station same day and filled 4.29 gallons of gas. I have some youtube videos from last year when I did another run at this. I also have all synthetic fluids and and soft tonneau cover it was 63 degrees out so I didn't run the A/C or heat. This isn't something that happened by accident here I put a lot of time into this and now with 9 mods specifically for Fuel Economy I have an increase of 38% .

No sorry I didn't do a write up on the Efans I bought the kit from troyer performance and used the instructions.

If you still don't believe me I will list things below.

Electric fan kit ( gains mpgs by loosing parasitic drag off the engine )
Under drive pulley ( Again less parasitic drag off the engine )
K&N Cold air intake ( The more air into the engine the better )
75mm Eddelbrock throttel body ( maximizing volumetric efficiency and deliver more air )
Edge programmer ( reprograms PCM for better efficiency and power)
JBA Shorty headers ( relieves back pressure on the engine )
Magnaflow catback ( again relieves back pressure on the engine)
MSD ignition coils ( Fires Multiple sparks per discharge rather than a single spark thus M.S.D more complete burn of fuel )
NGK Iridium spark plugs ( better spark more complete burn )
Synthetic Oil , Transmission fluid , and Differential fluid. ( better lubrication better efficiency )
Soft tonneau cover ( better aerodynamics )

Some of these have small gains some like the Efan and ignition upgrade have bigger results the point is even the little ones add up.

If you still don't believe me her are the youtube links. Not the best videos but the info is still there.

damn beats my 16.5 mpg highway. I was hesitant to believe you at first but you do have some evidence and had a background so its pretty believable.

I admit at this point I spent a lot of time and money doing this and could have bought a little 4 banger civic for what I have into it but I needed my truck for work.

Tonneau Covers don't help. Proved by Myth-Busters (remember that one?)
Common, not all at once now...

You were either sucking some 18 wheelers *** or Flintstoning it 20% of the time. Maybe both, - none of your mods are known to increase mileage. There's a few that don't make any sense, -at all. One of the most very important sensors to keep up on is the O2 sensors. Not just 2 in the front, but all 4 if lookin to increase mileage. Funny, you didn't mention them thar...Tell me this, what is your exact warm idle rpms in park ?

Actually, sounds like to me, - your adding up product hype.

OR iduno, - WAKEY WAKEY !!

You said you had all these mods done with edge programmer. Edge is only made for stock f 150 so I can't see how or believe how you could get 20 some mpg with those mods and no tuning done. If you had the gryphon during then yea I could see that.

My truck is'nt nearly as modded as your truck and I also get 120 miles through the first quarter tank ( Hell all of us do ) The tell is through a full tank and over several tanks. I avg 15 to 16 per gallon mixed every week. Drive 325 miles ( 21.3 to 21.8 gallons of gas ) on the weekly commute, very little in the way of flat ground around East Texas and it get's hotter than a throw away pistol around here. Your average of 16 city to 18.5 highway sounds plausible but your 25 miles per gallon as a benchmark is not.

By filling up after using only about a quarter of a tank, he eliminated nearly all evaporation. You can get much better mileage if you consistently filled up before using half a tank.

Hey, c.frank47, it's hard to get good mileage in all these East Texas hills!

Well I don't know how to convince you beyond whats already on here I went 118 miles on 4.29 gallons of gas. I'm not here to fool anyone what I'm telling here is that facts as far as the tonneau cover and mythbusters I didn't see it but I can tell tell you when I had my topper as opposed to my tonneau cover the difference was 2 mpg. As far as the edge not having custom tunes I don't know what to tell you I will be upgrading to a gryphon soon enough I can tell you the eco mpg calculator is way off! @ Cfrank47 16 is my in town 18.5 is what I normally avg city hwy combined 27.5mpg is the best I have ever got strictly hwy.

I understand the disbelief all but I'm not trying to pull a fast one on you here. I have noticed the stop and go to be a complete killer on fuel economy. I may be taking a 700 mile trip this summer I can see what a full tank of gas will run on the hwy. I should also have custom tunes by then.
