Digging the color combination in the suede and the black console and dome light. though it needs a good brushing and then left alone, it looks like the truck has been upside down and some one used the headliner as a sandbox.

No one has answered Fairlaner's question about if the regular cabs came with an overhead console, so far we have just seen pictures of ones that people have added themselves.

Good luck on your hunt Fairlaner!

Thanks for the input.

Patrick, the pics are exactly what I was looking for (and better than I expected ). I really like the look of the expy console, and was wondering if one would fit cleanly in my truck.

I've been toying w/ the idea of adding some sort of an overhead console, mainly as a spot for additional gauges/switches. When I compared the headliners between my '99 reg cab and my '03 ex-cab work truck, I noticed some differences. The ex-cab has what looks like a "pad" for the console to sit ... the reg. cab does not. This lead me to wonder if reg. cabs originally came w/ the consoles.

Ford changed the design in 2000 or 2001 on the headliner and A pillars. Its much harder to do the console addition on the flat 99 style.

"mmcustomsworks" from lightning rodder makes a bunch of custom pods, here is one he's done on the expy overhead console, his prices has about doubled since he made this one.

I pulled one out of 01 from local salvage yard (truck was all stripped so couldn't tell whether it was lightning or not) Then I took it to a 1998 single cab and try to mount it but there were no strong places to mount cleanly. So I didn't purchase it. Unless you run some metal bar frame from back to front underneath the liner for support.

there is an upper bracket mounted to the roof (above the headliner) that you failed to take with you

I've seen these pods ... look nice, but a little pricey for me.

Good to know it's much harder to install on the flat '99 style, as I just picked up any expy overhead console What's life w/o challenges ...

if you end up going with a gauge pod, let me know i need a trim piece off of it that you'd be replacing.

Also just FYI remember the Expy console had MPG display, not the Temp/compass that the F150s had
