1998 F-150 speedometer not working

I have a 1998 F-150 and a couple of months ago the speedometer quit working, also the odometer, trip, and cruise don't work. The check engine light has been on the entire time. I have installed new sensors, the one on the rear end and the one on the transfer case. That did not fix the problem. So i was told it was the instrument cluster. So I just installed one i got from a junk yard that was they said worked and still this did not fix the problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions of what to try.

Thanks

Jeff

That is probably what he changed on the transfer case.

Did you get the code pulled for the check engine light? If you get the code and post it up here it would make it a little easier for us to geuss. If you do not have a scanner, autozone or others will scan it for free and give you the code.

I had it scanned at the local garage and he said it was (If I remember right) something like a PM or PO 500 code. Not sure if there was more to it or not. First time dealing with the having a vehicle scanned. But he said the code dealed with the sensors. He suggested for me to replace the two sensors that I did. I checked the gears on the sensor and they look alright to me but it was the first time installing one. The new sensor did not come with new gears, wasn't sure if it was suppose to or not and the people at the parts store couldn't tell me if it should of or not either.

You need to get and post the EXACT numerical P-codes.

guessing from what you just gave us is pointless, there are many different PM500 and PO500 codes bud.

I apologize for adding to someone thread but I can't find how to start a new one
I have a 1998 f150 4.6 with manual transmission and 4x4
Speedometer does not work
Replaced both sensors, gear inside transfer case is ok
Replaced gauge cluster with one from scrap yard
Still does not work
I have tested for ac voltage at rear diff and everything seems proper with wheels spinning
What is the "reference voltage"at both sensors supposed to be the one at the rear diff is 5.01dc volts and the one at the transfer case Is 9.8 are these right and what else can I check as well cruse control does not work as well and all fuse are ok
