Is it in the brakes? Maybe a caliper sticking?

I took them apart and put brand new pads and rotors I doubt it... It might be the u joint every time I pb blaster it in the rear where it goes into the pumpkin it quiets it for a while. But I read that the u joint doesn't make a whining noise that's why I'm stumped and figured someone else dealt with this

Did you grease the caliper slides?

More of a whining and not a scratching noise ?

What are you hitting w/PB Blaster exactly ? -The U joint or the pinion gear ?

Did this occur right after working on the brakes ?

Yes I lubed them pretty good. And it sounds the brakes on a bus when coming to a stop but it kinda echoes that's why I figured it was echoing through the shaft. I spray the u joint. You know the thing shaped like a plus sign that pops into the driveshaft and locks in with the snap rings. I really thought it was brake related but I went over everything with my brakes.

could be pinion bearing or something more mechanical then just a Ujoint.

If the noise goes away when you spray the u-joint, replace the u-joint.

Any particular socket to get the splined bolts off and do I need a press?

You don't need a press, but it can be a PITA - easiest thing to do is drop the driveshaft and take it to a parts store that has a machine shop and let them change them out for you. I'd do front and rear if you are going to the trouble.

its a 12pt 12mm. Try using a wrench instead of a socket. 12pt sockets have the tendency to break easier, especially on a tight/rusted bolt.

Make sure you set the parking brake and chalk the wheels before you take the driveshaft off.

IMO both u-joints excellent idea, check drive shaft balance also. I would have added Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier to rear fluid change.
