Gas tank leak.
Gas tank leak.
Well a simple caliper change this past weekend turned into gas tank and brake line failure!
Went to go bleed the furthest most caliper when I noticed the bottom of gas tank in the back looking wet. Removed the plastic cover on the back and bunch of dirst mud/crud was there. So after cleaing the area of course it leaked more. It was not at a seam, but actually on a flat part. How it got there I have no idea. Seems like a small crack...couldn't even see it. It would just so slightly run down the side.
I bought some of the gas tank repair putty...It did ok, but since the tank leaked it didn't hold to well. It finally started sticking after I jacked the back up. After it dried. it still leaked a little. I added some JB weld mix over the area and more out. Over the putty. Let it dry and added some more. Then let it dry over night. Yesterday mid day I looked and no leak. I went ahead and added another layer of JB weld. It dried over night again and will for most part of today. I'll spray some rubber undercoating tonight and till test it out lat tonight.
Anyone have any suggestion if that will hold?
Anyone else ever use the product on gas tank leak? I couldn't see the hole...it was that small. I wanted to take a head gun to it to make it dry quicker so the gas woulnd't eat throug hit or keep it from drying, but something about head and electricty by a gas just didn't seem like a smark idea.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I'm aware of replacing the fuel tank.
I'm more looking for, do you think this will hold up ok? Or other methods of fixing besides lowering it and welding it or replacing it.
Thanks,
ps: flairing brake lines with non professional flaring toold sucks

I dont believe so. I looked at them and they look good! I also have the Off raod package so if they fail, It would only drop a few inches to the metal cover.
It's in my plans to get it done here soon.
