Tire load rating question
Tire load rating question
I have been lookin on here for a long time about lifts and tires and am finally ready to put some new shoes on her. So I called the tire place and they asked me if I had a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. When I said 1/2 ton they said 'so you don't need E tires just C?' and I had no idea so I just said whatever is cheaper. I went and looked up the difference and am worried about getting the C rated.
I don't tow anything (a boat for about 2 miles twice a year), don't have it loaded down that often, and commute about 20 miles to work and back. I might be moving and will be towing a U-Haul about 9 hours.
The guy at the tire shop said the Cs were fine but am just lookin for other opinions. I am gettin them put on this Friday so any input before that would be great.
Thanks!

LT load range C tires are more than adequate for an F150. LR D and E can be used, but are really overkill. Just use the proper pressure for your tires. On those years trucks Ford recommended 38-40 for an OE LR C. 40 psi will handle even the towing. You could go slightly higher if you find you are having sidewall flex, but it is unlikely you will need to.
PS, the trucks now are even coming with P series tires. I don't like them, but they are "adequate" for the F150, unless it is the higher GVWR (7700/8200).

Awesome thanks! And thanks to everyone on here who has unknowingly helped me with tires/suspension/replace spark plugs. I'm hoping to actually contribute something and get some before and after pictures of the truck.
