Removal of a hydrolocked 4.2 V6

Any tips on removing a V6 that is locked up? Cylinders have antifreeze in them from a failed intake gasket and the motor has been sitting for 3 years. It is ready to pull but the motor can't be rotated to unbolt the flywheel to torque converter bolts. Should I leave them attached and carefully slide it out? Will this damage the transmission? I have the new motor ready to install but this is my only stopping point. Plan on doing this tomorrow. Thanks!

Could you possibly take the trans out first, being careful not to damage the input shaft (leaving torque converter bolted to flywheel) ?

I would pull them out together, is it auto or manual?

You could also take all the spark plugs out and try freeing the engine with a big breaker bar and socket. Try going back and forth. It should free up with a little work.

With a torque converter, I'd assume it's an auto!

Not so easy when there is a bent rod jammed against the block.

Might be easier just to pull them together and split them on the floor.

I would just undo the bell bolts and yank the converter out. Makes a big mess but it dont hurt anything. I did my truck that way.. Buy a big bag of kitty litter to clean up the mess..

Oh Hope I never have that problem. Mine's a 99 V6.

There's a sticker on the driver side valve cover, which gives the engine build date (hopefully you can still read it). If the engine build date is after 1-15-98 (I'm pretty sure that's the right date), you have the improved gaskets and most likely won't have a problem.

I wiped the grease off and half the numbers are gone. I don't see a date.

From what I read online, 99 and up are good engines.

What's your truck build date (on the driver door sill)? My '99's build date is 9/98, and it's motor is 2/??/98.

A 1/99 build should have a good 98 engine.

That's good. It runs great and was well taken care of. The interior is like new.
