engine start problem

'98 F150, 170K, well maintained. 4.6 V8

Lately, the engine will not restart after it's been driven a few miles; wait 10 or 15 minutes, it starts fine. Never shows this problem when cold and runs good after it starts. Friends have guessed fuel pump, fuel filter, etc etc.
I wonder if it may be one of the control modules.

Any thoughts??

I'd check the starter and especially the connections. It's like hot rodders when the starter gets too hot next to the headers or the ground is crap.

fuel filter, mine has that issue, (kinda). Scan it for codes. Run a KOER and KOEO test as well.

My 1997 4.6L is doing similar...it always cranks good and strong, but appears to be starving for fuel while being cranked. Then, after 10-15 minutes, it just 'starts' - but after I heard a relay engage or disengage somewhere under the dashboard under the steering column (is where the relay 'clunk' sound appeared to come from). No trouble codes were set after it started-up.

I have a new fuel filter, but have not installed it yet. I wonder if that is the problem or something else....all of my fuses are good!
