high miles?

looking at a single cab stepside fx4 with the 5.4 here in my area for 8,000$. price i think is good im not worried about that but the thing is is that it has 180,000 miles and dealer said i can take it anywhere to check it out if i want.. i eventually ( couple months ) will put a new tranny a ford racing engine and lift tires etc on the truck.. but should i get into this truck? i want it to be reliable until i do those things

That sounds way to high for a single cab with 180k. I paid 8000 for my 01 lariat screw 90k miles

Get it down to 4k? cause that is the most I would pay for it. Price is waayy to high.

I know it varies between states but I am finding 00+ 4x4 extend cab 5.4L with 100-140k for 6k.

my truck had around 180k when i put my lift on it and i have 200k on it now still running like a champ... But seriously wouldnt pay more than 3-4k for it. I kelly blue booked mine and it was not worth 4k with the mileage and i have an extended cab so def. would not spend that much especially if your going to drop a new engine and lift it cause your looking at 4-5k for the lift tires and wheels cause more than likely the truck has not had its ball joints changed and when you have the lift and everything put on you will need to have them done also. well i had to have mine done anyways. Then your looking at another couple grand for the motor and having it put in so just with the lift you are already over what the truck is actually worth. But as far as them being reliable i have the 5.4l in mine and its never been in a shop to have anything done to it besides basic tune ups

yeah like i said im not worried about the price or what its worth.. basically just wondering how a truck with 180K will hold up. in my area ( florida ) trucks are always high priced but in other places theyre not so expensive or alot cheaper.. i dont mind doing ball joints or some spark plugs etc. just didnt want to be constantly pouring money into it every week

Well since you dont care about the cost and in a couple of months you are going to put a new motor and tranny in it you may as well get it. Considering you are doing a new motor and tranny is kinda confusing because that makes it seem like you are going to be dumping a lot of money into this truck. So long as its not rusted out or starting to fall apart it should be ok. It should be reliable enough to drive for a couple of months...

i do care about the cost i just meant that im gonna pay a reasonable price for it and i wasnt asking anybody if it was a good deal for 8K since thats not what ill be paying.. and ill put a new tranny and engine in it eventually not until i feel like dropping that kind of money into it.. im basically looking for a single cab truck that i can drive around and be reliable for me that i can use for work/play/hunting/ 3rd vehicle and a toy to fix up on.. its not something i plan on selling i just want a truck thats reliable that i can drive for work and commute in... i dont plan on putting a ford racing engine or tranny in it for a long time hopefully after i get the lift and other things done

i shouldve asked what the common problems are with these motors or trucks.. because when i was growing up i never looked at miles when buying an f150 and never had any issues just now a days people dont take care of trucks like they used to
