I have a 2003 f 150 5.4 that has a coolant leak that has both me & my mechanic stumped . I have the intake off & it appears that the coolant is leaking out of the 3rd & 4th bolt hole on the intake on the passenger side . any ideas on how this is possible or where else it could be coming from. Also had a small amount of oil on the driver's side in the little pockets before the bottom of the valley , we can"t find any visible signs of cracks , no oil in water , no water in oil, no smell of antifreeze in exhaust , added a pic , hope you can see it, any help is appreciated , thanks

that is a weird spot, can you feel up under there to see if there is a small pinhole?

 

Do you mean in the head? It acts like it's dripping right out of the bolt holes, is that even possible? thanks

did you blow out the holes to see if there might be a crack in them from the coolant passages?

 

yes , we checked for any holes or cracks, I will have to try to blow out the holes when I go to the garage tomorrow. We were starting to think that the head might be cracked , but since it is in 2 different spots both at the bolt holes it didn't seem likely. I also forgot to put in my initial post , the intake gasket was leaking when it was pressure tested , when I lifted the intake off is when I discovered it coming from the bolt holes also . You could see antifreeze in between the intake & the valve cover in the very back. We're in between changing the intake & gasket or pulling the motor & having the heads checked. Any advice is greatly appreciated as we have never seen one leak like this before. Thanks

 

ive never heard of one leaking in the holes either. usually its where the coolant travels threw the intake gasket.
