99 f150

Hey guys, I need your opinions/info about a truck that I'm interested in. It is a 1999 F150 XLT Supercab, standard bed. It's got the 5.4, 4x4, auto tranny, and a grand total of 107k miles. Has heavy duty alternator, 6500lb springs in the rear, class iii or iv hitch and brake controller. Comes with a cap, a new bed and tailgate and new doors. I looked at it this evening, and everything seems to be pretty good. I haven't actually driven it yet because I still don't have the money. The engine sounds good, no out of the ordinary noises, doesn't appear to have any leaks. The rear springs do look like they are kind of flattening out sort of, so I'd be looking into possibly a new set of rear springs to lift it a little, so I could level the front with the t-bar and put 285s on it. The frame is a little rusty but that is the good old PA weather for ya, but didn't notice any holes. He is asking $5000 for it.

Also, he says he gets about 15 around town and 18 or 19 on the highway. Is this a valid statement or is it just bs?

Do you guys think it's a good deal?

Thanks for your help!

Also, how bad is the M5OD? The thing I'd miss most about my jeep us shifting gears. I am used to shifting and enjoy it a lot

Just going off of my own truck because I have the same engine/4WD set-up, 18/19 mpg highway is a stretch. I think 16 may be more realistic...and that's easy on the gas. I would think around town would be 12-13 mpg.

Ok. Would the cap have anything to do with better mpg? Would I get the same with just a tonneau cover or hard tonneau cover? Would you say that's a good deal?

They don't make a diffrence. A cap might hurt a little cause of weight.

I have seen 18 outta mine last summer. following a dodge towing a jeep. Haven't seen close to that lately though. I AVG right now 11-12 about 50/50 cty/hwy depends on the week though.

For the miles and what not price seems good. Did you check the rockers for rust? Give them a little push. They rust inside out. Check the core support also.

I didn't check the rockers. I'll be sure to check the core support too. Is that the one that goes under the whole engine, or just under the radiator?

Ok. Thank you very much! I've got a guy coming tomorrow morning to look at my jeep, and hopefully he buys it and I'll have my truck within the next couple days.

When you drive it and your accelerating and if you here a slight ticking More than likely a manifold leak.. These trucks are know for manifold leaks.

Nope. Just a pain in the *** to change. would have to get a new manifold though. Mine was leaking for years before i fixed it. And if you do have to fix it don't use doorman from advance auto. Mine cracked and its has not been a year yet
