'97 4.6, p0153, st ftrm2 % = 53.1 (!) (?)

Finally bought an Actron....

1997 F150 SCAB 4x4 4.6.

Repeated P0153 code (Upstream O2 sensor Bank One).

I probably have a slight leak on that side at the exhaust manifold. I know, time for exhaust manifolds.... so......

My "Freeze Data" from a 20 miles drive this afternoon:

Eng Speed (RPM) 1423
Calc Load % 60
Coolant (F) 192 (Finally)
ST FTRM1 % 7.0
LT FTRM1 % 4.7
ST FTRM2 % 53.1 (!)
LT FTRM2 % 0.0
VEH SPEED (MPH) 52

So... My qiestion is: Could the huge imbalance in fuel trim be due to the upstream O2 sensor, bank 2 getting a bad reading due to an exhaust leak and compensating by adjusting bank 2 fuel trim?

Another thing I've found is that there is a 150 degree difference in exhaust manifold temperatures... could that be due to a richer F/A mix on bank 2?

Not looking forward to doing the R&R on the manifolds.... If I do... been talking to a few guys that do more of these than dealerships and they cut the old bolts/stud off flush with the manifolds, pop the old manifolds off, weld nuts to the old bolts/studs and carefully work them out of the heads.

But I'd like to know if my code and occasional rough idle are due to an exhaust leak...

Thanks...

Thanks GLC!
I found the same link about an hour after posting. Makes me think leaky exhaust manifold.
Wish it was an easy component swap instead.......

Good to see you are associating the code to live data.
Seems there are two issues at the same time.
The code for bank one is slow oxygen sensor response.
Could be an air leak or a faulty contaminated sensor bank one.
The indicated live data for long and short term fuel trim of bank 2 is another matter.
Yes a rich A/F ratio will result in cooler exhaust temperatures on that bank.
Carefully work out the testing as if there are two seperate issues.
Fine if it does not turn out to be so but thinking as if there is only one trouble may result in confusion by thinking a repair will take care of both indication.
After all has been addressed, the live data should about even out as long as there are no other issues.
Good luck.
