Overhead Console
Overhead Console
The temp & compass finally died in our 2002 F150. I know there is a chance I can fix it, but my question is can I upgrade it? Are there versions that have reading lights? MPG Output? Thanks -

my '02 has map/reading lights. Go to a salvage yard and look for one. I suppose you would need the complete unit including roof bracket and possibly the electrical connector pigtails

Just follow the directions in the link in Bluejay's post, it is really easy. There are two different consoles that I know of. The short one like in Red02FX4's post that is in trucks with the moon-roof and a longer one in vehicles that do not have a moon-roof. I think they both have map lights. As far as the actual display is concerned, it only displays the temp and compass, I have never heard of one that has any other features.
I have the short one with the moon-roof, and mine was dead when I bought the truck several months ago, it only took about 20 minutes to fix.
The part I don't understand is about the map lights, why do I have to turn on the interior lights using the headlight dimmer switch before the map lights can be turned on and off with the switches?
I have a 2006 Mustang GT with an overhead console and map lights and I can turn the switches on anytime without messing with the dimmer switch.
