What is this and where did it come from?

I noticed this just laying there this morning when I got in the truck on my way to work...

I placed a quarter next to it to give you an idea on it's size...

Come on I know one of you know exactly what and where it goes...

Looks sort of like the little gear to adjust your shift indicator when it gets misaligned

I'd say the same thing. I think there's a write up with pictures around somewhere. How to adjust the shift indicator.

It maybe one of the gears in the Parking break assembly, Maybe

or one of the gears in the steering wheel angle adjustment

or maybe its from the wiper motor on the drivers side

I think they are. I adjusted mine before, but I can't remember, maybe vaguely lol. - I thought it was a white gear like in the picture with a wire that kind of triangulated next to the column.

I thought my dads 97 f150 has the same adjuster as my 01, the same one from patmans thread. (ill look at his and mine again tonite to check)

To the OP, does everything work as it should in the truck? Mabey it has to do with a gauge, or mabey the previose owner droped it and kicked it up front and now it just rolled down to that spot and realy has nothing to do with the truck and was just some random gear he had in his pocket from work?

Could it have to do with the parking brake lever?

If it were the gear indicator you would know it. The indicator would not move. I adjusted mine a while back and think I remember it being a black gear?
I would hope that ford would not use plastic gears on an adjustable pedal setup. I would think it would come from something not so important, like the ashtray assembly or something like that.

I just looked for a while, didn't see anything. Thought maybe the vent adjusters but they don't have gears. Honestly it looks like something from a toy. It has the second reducer gear on it. Some kind of motor would have to drive it essentially and can't think of any so I don't think it came from the truck. Got kids?

Thanks for all the replies...

I doubt its from the original owner seeing how I bought the truck from him with only 23,000 miles on it and he never did anything to the truck other than the occasional drive hear and there...

I thought from where it was sitting that it was from my emergency brake assembly but I couldn't see any indication of something missing. It was laying just under the E-Brake pedal though...

I drove the truck all day today and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Shifts from the colum are smooth as usuall. Nothing rattles or anyting like that to give me a hint...

I do have adjustable pedals as someone mentinoed but again when I look under there I don't see anything that jumps out at me... I will keep looking, thanks for all the help and please keep it coming. I'm sure we will figure it out.

Thanks,
Adam
