Question Need help engine doing crazy things

Truck has done it twice now, I go to start the truck it sounds normal then as it is cranking it acts like it locks ups{like hydo lock or fuel lock}Then I bump it a few times and it starts and runs great. No smoke and the water level is not going down. The only thing I can thing of that the fuel system is leaking down while it sits and then when I go to start it the cylinder has fuel in it. I dont know if this possible or if someone else has had this happen. The truck has the 5.4 . If anyone has any idea's it would be great.

Battery

Installed new battery about 2 months ago. So I will check connection, but seem like if I had a bad connection or Battery it would not crank. Iam going out to check it now and try and crank to see if it does it again. It did yesterday then I drove it all day no problems. The only thing I noticed after it kick back yesterday was a strong smell of fuel then it fired right up. Went around to the rear to see if it blowing black smoke but nothing. Thanks for the reply I will recheck the battery.

Just tried it crank right up open hood pullled on the +side good.pulled on the -side out pops the ground wire. I will fix this right now, hope this cures it.

If your smelling gas look at all the injectors on the outside for signs of leakage from their body.
Don't wait too long because the leakge will evaporate so you may not see it other than signs the wettness left in the area.
After engine shutdown the fuel rails may hold pressure for some 30 minutes if the injectors are tight and the check valve in the pump holds.
Pressure in the rails at shutdown is about 35 psi +/-.

Good luck.

To toxic 150.
The system voltage needs to be checked right after starting, at the battery.
You need to see a voltage near 15 volts right after starting and a taper down to about 14 volts after a few minutes.
This indicates the alternator is charging the battery to restore it's charge.
A charge lamp gets it's signal from the alternator.
When the alternator is not up to voltage, a ground is outputted to light the charge lamp. When the alternator voltage comes up right after starting, the lamp ground is remove by the alternator regulator indicating the alternator is charging.
Something was missed or the regulator is faulty.
There are no code of any kind involving the charge system.
The system has only two parts (battery and alternator) and cables so not much complication.
Do the testing and observe the way it acts.
If the battery does not seem weak from lack of recharge, the voltage is correct and the lamp is still on, the regulator on the alternator would be suspect.
Good luck.

If there is a lot of age and miles on the alternator, they wear the brushes and often develope rough commutator surfaces the brushes can't follow.
Brush hang up etc.
Good luck.
