Gas Guage Fluctiation?

I was cruising around the other day and out of nowhere my gas guage needle started to fluctuate. I right about a 3/4 tank and periodically on the drive it would drop to half, work back up to 3/4, drop 1/8, work back up, and so on. Seemed to be no rhyme or reason why or how far it dropped. Was about a 25min drive and several elevation changes. No changes is feel or drivability the whole time and was the only guage fluctuating. Also it has not done it since, and did not do it on the same drive back. Ive got a '99 4x4 with a 5.4, 26 gallon tank, and auto transmission. Has any one had this happen, know what could have cause it, or if this is something to be weary of?

Mine fluctuates a little bit maybe an eighth of a tank but not nearly as much as yours did.

Mine acts the same as Alex's but only since I had to replace the tank in Nov. '10

My gauge moves up and down when I go up or down hills because of the gas moving and the sensor is in the back. Did you go up or down some step hills?
