Put 'er in the woods...

Hey guys,

I was on my way to work today and the road were pretty slick, I was doing around 60-70KM/H in the 80 zone and lost control, fish tailed a bit, got control and then slid from my side to the opposite side of the road all over, just couldn't get it under control and then was able to get it from fish tailing and ended up sliding straight into the woods.. I got pulled out, truck runs fine, sounds fine, but there is some visual damage. What are you thinking it needs, and maybe how much roughly? Getting the taillight assembly Monday for $40.

Trucks box seems fine besides the step being pushed in, it does seem a little bit slanted though..

Let me know your thoughts,
Brendan

Well it seems like the box is one piece, then the side panels are bolted on, and then the tail gate... Maybe I could buy a new panel and paint it to match, or do you think the step could be brought up and have a oxy putty or something like glue put into the fiberglass and whatnot to hold it together?

I don't care if there's a little scar.. Just want the old girl back to normal

No kidding - driving that speed on that road on those tires is suicide.

Thanks guys! Tires aren't bad, it's just the rear driver side spare that's bad!! Never had a problem until I had to put the spare on a few days ago..

So what's your thoughts, new bed panel or re align the bed and poxy glue the step up? Or is that even an option? Taillight assembly will be here Monday.

Okay so what's your price thoughts?? Think the end of the panel could be bent back and aligned with the bed??

Doesn't look to serious... I e-mailed Fix Auto asking a price quote with a picture, scared to hear back.

Depends on who you take it to. I have a buddy who fixes utility buckets the ones power pole guys use. I would take it to him have him patch the damage then have that side resprayed.. Its all in how creative you get..

I just want the end of the panel bent back into place and aligned with the cab - Then the step put back into place and gorilla glued or something and might need some body fill on the underneath part of the step and then painted to match and I'd be happy.

Good thing I have fiberglass eh?

Poor truck. Maybe next time you'll drive in a suitable manner for the conditions.

It would be easier to get a whole new bedside instead of trying to fix it. Finding a good fiberglass guy, and paying him will be just as much if not more then a new bed side imo.

I sent a message to Fix Auto. It's a place that does professional work for accidents and whatnot if you aren't familiar with it. By the way I was driving suitable for the road conditions, but sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you are the slightest thing can send you sliding...

In the e-mail I sent the pictures (They do quotes that way) and asking if they thought it would be better/cheaper to get a new side and have it painted to match or have it put back in place and gorilla glued or something of that sort.

It's hard to find any new bed sides around here... I checked all the used part sites in the province and the next 3 provinces over, there are absolutely none around for the Flareside. It seems to be a more rare model of the truck... So my only option would be the molding/filling/glueing/painting.... What are the prices usually for fiberglass fixing compared to bed sides painted/installed?

Thanks,
Brendan

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but you were NOT driving appropriate for the conditions with that baloney skin tire on it.

I was driving appropriate, I was going slower then the limit and being very careful. I can see your point though regarding how the tire is bald and due for a change thus making it not appropriate in that sense. It's like going to shovel snow in your boxers.. Not appropriate for the conditions.
