Questions

Hi guys, I just have a few questions about these 97-03 F150's. First, I'd be using the truck mainly to tow my boat and jeep, so max probably around 6000 lbs. What would you guys say is a safe weight to tow with a 4.6? Also, how reliable is the 4.6 and/or the 5.4? Are they fairly easy to work on? Honestly, I really like the look of the 94-96's, but finding an extended cab with 351 is darn near impossible around here, so I might be stuck with the 97-03. What can be done to improve the looks of this year?

I mean, I'm not against them, but I just prefer the looks of the older, or the 2004-2007 look.

Ok. So I'd definitely be ok for towing. How about reliability and ease of maintenance of the 4.6 or 5.4?

I have a 2002 4.6 liter with 152,000 miles on it...had to replace the fuel pump 4 months ago other than that just plugs, coils and oil changes...not bad I say.

I know about turning the torsion keys to level it, but is there another way to do it without putting as much stress on the front suspension components?

I have a 99 ext cab with the 5.4. Had the truck for about 30,000k (has 91k total) now and have had to replace nothing. In fact the old owner never had to replace anything either. Truck runs perfectly, feels brand new.
Im 16 and have put in upgraded air intake, throttle body, and fuel filter myself, so in turns of ease of maintenance I'd think if i can do it you can too.

A spindle lift will give you 3-3.5" of suspension lift and does not put a lot of stress on the suspension at all.
Another option is a body lift, but i'd go with spindles for ride quality / installation prices.

Sorry for double post.

I don't like the body lifts. I have a 2" on my jeep, and I can't wait to get rid of that!

Spindle lift...looks just like larger knuckles maybe?

Spindles are only for a 2wd so if you have a 4x4 they won't work. As far as reliability, I have 192k on mine and the most serious thing I've had to replace was the starter and that was due to some offroading on my part. Other than that I've only had to replace things such as plugs, brakes, tie rods, and ball joints.

Can I fit 32x11.50's or 33x12.50 or 33x10.50 on it stock, or would I have to level the front some to fit them?
