Oil pan removal question

Hello All: My Truck: 1997 F-150; 4.2L, XL, V6, 2WD. All stock.
Project at hand: Replacing oil pan gaskit to eliminate, reduce oil seepage

QUESTION 1: Is it possible to remove the oil pan with out removing the engine out of the truck?

QUESTION 2: I also want to inspect the bottom end (crank, bearing etc) as well.
Is something like this possible on this Ford?

Thanks in advance.

You have to lift the engine, not remove it. Then position hardwood blocks in the engine mount saddles to support it.

you need a jack and a 2x4 unbolt the moter mounts and then put the 2x4 on the harmonic balancer and jack it up a few inches and that should give you some room to move it around the sump. ive had to do it with my 4.6 a few times with your v6 you should have no problem

That's where you want to lift 400-500lbs from, the harmonic balancer......?
I guess if you don't have a picker, you don't have a choice.

yea I was thinking the same ....it might be a bad idea to put stress on the end of the crank and caps like that .....not only the balancer ....I'm about to preform this feat Tuesday ....considering I installed the pan without pulling the pickup tube to the rebuild ....geez ....before I realized my mistake I ran it for a couple minutes trying to see if the pump would grab some oil ...naturally it didn't but man I didn't like it ....I sure hope they lubed it well during assembly

anyone got input on this task? ....I was noticing how close the actuators are to the firewall ....any clue if that will clear OK before the pan drops?

many thanks in advance
Bob
