Questions about machine shop services?

I'm pulling a 4.6 out of a 97 F150 that's been sitting for years.

I plan to send the heads out to a shop to have them checked and get a valve job etc...

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some ballpark costs involved in redoing the heads?

The bottom end has ruffly miles, never knocked, smoked or used oil- but has been sitting for years and all the coolant drained out the oil pan. The motor had oil n the coolant and coolant in the oil. I suspected head gasket failure when it was originally taken off the road.

I'm wondering what should I have done to the bottom end? Tank the block, have it honed, new rings and bearings, deck the block?

Same questions as the heads, any ballpark of costs for these services?

This is my first serious engine rebuild by myself. Plan on replacing oil & water pump also.

Any tips or advice?

RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. Do it, on the shop you choose, shop around get different prices from different places. depending on where you are and how big racing is near where you live there should be alot of places that do it. and ive learned over the years working with my dad some of the best places are hole in the wall mom and pop shops.

i guess the big thing is just dont jump head long in to a shop and not read reviews or the BBB report haha
