Leaking axle
Leaking axle
I did a quick search but didn't find anything.
I got back to school the other day and I noticed that my front axle had puked some gear oil out of the breather tube. I really don't have any idea where to start with this one guys. Anyone had this happen? It is only coming out of the vent tube, which comes out on the passenger inner fender and leaks right on top of the shock/frame/axle shaft. I don't know what would cause this... Everything seems to be fine. The 4x4 works, I haven't noticed any vibrations out of the ordinary. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks for the reply guys.
Ummmm.... as far as I can tell, the oil isnt milky, the ***** is everywhere and seems to be just plain ol' gear oil. I haven't been upside down, and I haven't touched the diff since I got the truck a couple of years ago, so it shouldn't be over full. the closest thing to deep water would have been a couple of big puddles over Christmas break, but nothing that would have submerged the front end.
Would getting to hot cause this? If so, then why is it getting to hot? Maybe time for a fluid change?
Like i said everything seems to be fine (as fine as a 15 year old truck with 191,000 miles can be expected to be any way). This problem is really the only indication that there is trouble in river city.

After some googling, i found this thread, and was wondering if anyone ever found a solution, or if a bad casting was really the issue. (my build date is around june 96) Should i just look for a new front axle from bone yard out of a newer truck?

Heat is usually all it is. To much of it. Either the diff fluid has broken down or it's the wrong type.
Contamination as well. Like if you rinse the engine compartment out or the breather has fallen off. It's also possible, that if you loose your lower wheel well skirt (they fall off) 0n the passenger side, you may catch road water drain. Over time, that can add up.

Thanks for the response. If the weather permits i may do a fluid change this weekend.
Yes, thru PM's. Ask here, if you want.
Someone on here once said you have a part number for generic Bosch oxygen sensors that are much less expensive then OEM ones, just that they do not come with the electrical plug on them. I would have to solder in my plug. Can you hook me up with the part number?
