my trucks engine has 264,500 miles and want to replace the engine. a local salvage yard said they would charge me 1000 dollars for a replacement engine, and 500 dollars to take out my current engine and drop in the other.

I asked them how many miles it had on it but they didnt know off the top of there head because it was being shipped to them already.

but they said they only buy engines with low miles so that they can guarantee the engine and there work.

Is this a good deal? my grandpa is a really good friend of the owner, he went with me and talked to the head mechanic and the owner.

also I bought my transmission from there and they installed it and hasnt given any problems, its been about 1yr.

what do you guys think?

 

well, you aren't giving us much info to work with and if you trust 'em then it's your money and truck

 

I wouldn't go there. Wrecking yards can get that information-the miles. For all you know it will be another engine with 250000 miles on it.

 

X2 i wouldnt do it since you dont know the mileage.

 

I would never buy an engine with unknown miles or condition. How do you set a price on something without knowing the miles?
