Trans problem

ok so i have a 97 f-150 automatic, and it goes in to the first two gears just fine then when it is suppose to go in to 3rd gear it just acts like it went into neutral. i can start in 1st, then shift up to 2nd, and that is the way i have to drive it, but when it is in D-drive is when it does it, btw it works fine in 2nd no problems.

Like a couple thousand for a newly rebuilt tranny installed or you can pay half that for a salvage yard transmission installed. If you rebuild the tranny you own now, you know it's going to fit correctly. A junk yard isn't very careful with determing condition and fitment so they just guarantee that it works and if it doesn't you still have all that labor reinstalling the replacement. I suggest finding a reputable garage that will guarantee their choice of a salvage transmission installed. That way you don't pay as much as rebuilding and you won't have to eat the cost of a bad replacement.
