Follow up question about warning light

My red battery light came on and with the help from everyone I found my alternator to be bad, or is it?

My last couple trips out the red warning light disappeared! My battery gauge didn't flux at all when I turned the lights or heat on like it did when the red light was on. I checked all my connections, new batt 1 month ago. Should I still replace the alternator? Is this common where it'll work sometimes and not work or could it be something else?

It's not unheard of for that to happen.....if you have checked/replaced all of the other components, it probably is your alternator. Have you pulled it off and had it checked? Depending on the cost of a replacement, it may be worth doing it now instead of being out somewhere and getting stuck when it does decide to die.

Not trying to bag on you, but followup questions should be posted in the original thread. This is standard forum procedure.

I'm not upset at all - just trying to let you know how things are supposed to be!

Mine would do that too. The battery light would come on at start up (after it was running) The brushes were shot so if I tapped on the alt with something they would free up and it would charge. That got me about 500 extra miles out of it before it finally took a dump. Who would have thought that an alternator would only last for 188,000 miles.

Yours is probably ready to go. Like stated before have it checked.

Your profile says that you have a 2011 - this should be a warranty issue.

User CP, edit your details.

How come you are posting questions about a 2006 in the 97-03 forum?
