I need to tow DirtySCREW (2003 SCREW 4x4) about 230 miles. What can I tow her with? The U-haul car carrier won't work as they say my truck is too heavy. Same for car dolly (and I don't want to undo drive shaft anyways).

Will another F150 tow her or do I need a F250/F350? Diesel? Special trailer?

Help? I'm sure some of ya'll have self towed your truck due to moving etc.

put mine up on a 16ft trailer, had to climb out of the window to get out.

 

why do you need to tow so far?

 

To get it to a friend of mine that's a Mechanic. The one's around here don't know what a Time-sert is!!!! They all want to heli-coil it. (I had it spit a plug on me). I feel a lot better if I can get it to him as he has done dozens of them and I trust him.
It's sad when I'm nothing more than a Shadetree mechanic and I know more about time-sert than actually ASE certified mechanics.

did you try the dealer? I know the dealers around here only use the timesert

also if they do not and you trust your buddy. Leave the plug out and unplug that injector and just drive it. It will sound like a steam engine but you will be able to drive it there. That is the way I did mine for about 100 miles.

 

Yea, 2 different ones. Neither one knew what I was talking about!!!!

I just don't want to mess anything else up, but driving up there may be a solution.

Have you considered renting the Timesert kit from Galaxy and doing it yourself?

 

Renting a trailer, borrowing another truck, etc, can get expensive quickly. How much would your friend charge to come to you? A timesert kit is not too difficult to transport, an F-150 is.

Yeah throw your buddy some gas money and some extra cash to come to you, or just drive it like others have said.

Also when my first plug spit out, i was able to put it back in and drive it. That was back before I knew about them blowing out and figured it just backed out on its own. then about 3 months later it popped out again but left no threads

 

What cylinder is it? Dude its isnt that hard. The tool is threaded to go down the original spark plug hole once its deep in the hole the insert cutting part of the tool starts working. A person with minimal mechanical aptitude can accomplish it. were you not on the other side of the country from me I'd offer to do it for you. Here's a video all you have to do is follow the video and its SIMPLE. The only problem is if its way in the back. (cylinders 8 or 4). But its still not that hard just a little more difficult. Mine was cylinder 7 and I was totally surprised how easy it was.

I was gonna have my friend come to me but he won't be able to until after the 1st of the year. I'd like to get my truck back on the road sooner.

I agree the time-sert doesn't look that difficult. But I have never tapped anything and I don't want to start with an expensive aluminum head! LOL

Another friend of mine has offered to trailer it for me with me just paying for the diesel fuel for his F350. I think I'm gonna go this route as I noticed another COP cracked. I don't want to break down in the middle of no-where!
