Installing rear lift blocks
Installing rear lift blocks
I'm waiting for a Rough Country 2" Lift Block kit to be delivered to me. It comes with new U-Bolts and aluminum blocks. I have never in 11 years of owning my truck taken the U-Bolts off. I'm guessing after soaking them in WD-40 that they might not just come loose due to rust so I have a propane torch and an angle grinder with cutoff wheel as a back up. At this point, I'm just wondering if the kit will fit since I haven't seen it yet. I don't want to destroy my stock setup if I don't have to in case the kit doesn't fit. Rough Country told me that they assume it will fit 2WD as well as 4x4 because the axle is the same but they didn't know if I have the same width leaf springs as a 4x4.
Does anyone have experience with this or know something about it?

Thanks, I bought some 2" shock extenders also to keep the shock travel consistant. I should be installing in the next couple of weeks.
Lift Shackles?
I didn't go through with the lift block order after I inspected my trucks rear suspension and considered the tools I would need to instal them. I don't own an impact and only have a small hydraulic jack...
I want a small amount of rear lift on my 2WD and don't want to pay the high price of new springs so my options are 2" blocks for around $45, 1.5" add-a-leafs for around $65, or 1.5" lift shackles for around $70. I want an easy installation if at all possible but want the lesser of evils for my driveline geometry. The lift blocks are angled to accomodate correction to the pinion angle and 4x4s have a 2" block from the factory. The add-a-leafs might be too harsh and cause the rear to "skip" around bumpy corners on typical New Hampshire roads since I carry very little weight in the back except for 300 lbs of sand bags in the winter for traction. The lift shackles I know the least about and can only wonder if the shorter shackle will affect the way the leafspring moves and it's corresponding driveline angle. I am leaning towards the lift shackles though because my stock shackles are pretty rusty but maybe not compromised.

Thanks for your replies and I will confidentally follow your advice. I just loaded the sand bags in the truck for the winter and now have the unsightly rearend sag so I am motivated to do this soon.
