This is probably a reoccurring question, but how do you PROPERLY clean the IAC valve? I've heard carb cleaner, just air, electronic cleaner, water, and throttle body cleaner. Which one is right? And is there any other way?

Remove the part and look inside.
You will see a spring loaded slide valve.
It must move freely in responce to a varying pulse voltage applied by the computer.
This action allows air to bypass the throttle plate thereby controlling idle speed.
Use throttle body cleaner and spray inside. Do this long enough to see it run out clean and the valve slides freely by testing with a small screw driver to move it full distance.
.
Remove the air intake hose to expose the throttle plate.
Hold throttle wide open and spray all around until it runs out clean.
Reassemble both and wait a few minutes for all the cleaner to evaporate or the motor could be somewhat hard to start.
More than you ask for and a how to, for doing the whole job.
Good luck.

For 30 bucks.... I would just get a new one. They are not expensive. I cleaned mine with carb cleaner, then was told that would/could mess up the seals inside. So I just got a new one just to be safe.

Cost you extra for that answer.
Don't know because there may be other issues.
One thing at a time.
Good luck.

The best product to try to clean the IAC with would be WD-40 or Deep Creep. Use throttle body cleaner to clean the throttle body, REMOVED from the engine.

Yea. And with a set of needle nose, reach in and make sure the plunger works freely. They get hung up with build up.
