stuck at a crossroad

Hi all, I have a 2003 F150 supercrew and I have a dilemma. I just got the truck last October and the notorious 5.4 knock/tick is getting to me. I was wondering if it is possible to put a 5.0 coyote in it and have it bolt up to my current drivetrains? I've heard horror stories of guys rebuilding the 5.4 and the tick/knock still being there. Please help!

LOL, if you area afraid of a simple 5.4 then no bolting a coyote 5.0 directly in and the subsequent wiring issues that follow is not in your abilities

Not afraid of the 5.4 just don't want to rebuild the motor to have it knock/tick again.

It will bolt up, buy you need a stand-alone computer to run it. It would be easiest to find a wrecked 150 or mustang and swap the entire drivetrain over.

I believe you're thinking of the 5.4 3v having ticking issues.

If you do a full rebuild there should be no reason to have a ticking noise

Or possibly the older 5.4l 2V with the cold start rod knock possibly?

has anyone posting in this thread bothered to read up about these coyote swaps and the lack of low end drivability afterwards?

This is why I don't bother answering these threads.
The swap amounts to back yard engineering which few have the ability to do with a successful conclusion. The meaning of successful conclusion is up to debate as to it's final meaning because there are no standards or specs.
For the sake of replacing or rebuilding or even modifying the 5.4, why would anyone put themselves through the hassle of this type project and end up spending several times the cost of original replacement and never see the road as useful truck for anything but talk or display.
A stock new truck will eat it for lunch..
Good luck.

the idea of a 10th gen coyote would be amazing. you could take a supercab or a supercrew and be giving Lightnings a run for their money.

I would eventually love to swap in a truck 5.0 and 6r80 into my screw, but the funds to do that and get all the systems working would be a nightmare.

If you are attempting this project, chances are you know someone that can give you the hook up on an exhaust.

Looks good to me....

Why would there be a lack of low end? Works just fine in the F150s...
