Engine Swap/Cab swap

Want to say Hi to the Forum, New here and this is my first post an it is a doozie. Needing help on a project So Here goes "Please read carefully"
My 1999 F-150 single cab has a New 4.2 V6 Engine in it less than 1,000 miles.
Grandson rolled it and bent the cab and bed up. so I want to swap the Engine and Tranny into a single cab 1997 F-150 wheich has a Bad 4.6 V8.
Can I do the Engine swap without a lot of problems, or would it be simpler to take the Cab and Bed and put it on the 1999 F-150. I know that it sounds kinda Dumb but as it stands now I am getting no use out of either one of the truck's. what all would I need to swap the 4.2 out of the 1999 into the 4.6 1997. I got laid off my job a couple months badk so Spending money is gonna be limited. any help would be much apperciated

I would think its easier to do a cab swap then doing a V8 to V6 conversion

have you got any advise on how to do that I have very limited knowledge in Body work. lol
The only difference that I know of is the 1999 has the Anti-thieft in the computer where as the 1997 does not have that. I guess that I could swap the steering colum. to over ride that

I don't have experience in doing either swap, but I would want to make sure the 99's frame isn't bent before using that as the "base" truck. Swapping the bed doesn't seem like a big deal, just six bolts and some electrical stuff at the back.

it would be doable but would be a lot of work. a lot of work. Your only real option would be to swap cabs. The v6 and v8 have different motor mounts, and bell housings.

If you were to swap cabs it will be a lot a lot of work. The 99 has pats, the 97 does not. In order to make pats work you would need to swap the cluster, pcm, GEM, and ignition lock cylinder.

The 97's speedo is gear driven where the 99 is electronic. I would imagine you would have to strip out both interiors and swap all wiring.

If I were you I would be looking for a complete truck for cheap that has a blown 4.2 to swap it into. Swap good 4.2 into new truck part out what is left of the old truck. For the 4.6L I would be looking for a 4.6 from another f150, crown vic, mustang etc to swap in. It would be a lot less work. Keep the better truck and sell the other. It will be more straight forward and you should be ahead financially when all is said and done. (assuming you have the money up front)

cab swap, pull seats/carpet to access body bolts (go through cab down into frame)
front end has bolts on frame horns near core support (core support welded to inner fenders, which is welded to firewall) so the whole cab/front clip moves off together
