5.13's with 38's?
5.13's with 38's?
I've put on 8 inches worth of lift over the summer and stuck 38's under my truck and have been driving with stock 3.73 gears for about 3 months now and hate it. I want my power back and then some. I've talked to alot of guys that put 4.56's and 4.88's in there trucks that have 37's and 38's and feel that its undergeared. I'm thinking 5.13's are my best bet. Anybody have any advice or suggestions?
From what I know, 5.13's won't fit in a Ford 9.75 rearend.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it won't fit. 4:88s is as low as you can go.
I don't think it's under-geared at all.

4.56's are more for 35's. 4.88's would be best, like efuehrin said I don't think 5.13's will fit either. And that would be a little low for 38's unless you do no highway at all or its just a mud truck only.
I'll post pics as soon as I can get back home on my laptop. I found 5.13 s for a 9.75 rear end and it said it fits a 99 f150 on Randy's ring and pinion. I figured this would be right but I may be wrong
There a thread about this elsewhere on this site, and a few guys are running 5.13 gearsets, front and rear, some had to mod the pin in the diff to get it to fit.
IMO, 5.13 would be too much for highway use, with 38"s. I run 4.88's with 37"s and I rev at 2100-2300 rpms at 60-70 mph, and you can bet that's burning alot more fuel. I get 13-14.5 mpg on the highway at 60 mph and 11.5-12 mpg at 70 mph. Around town the gears are nice,though.Lot's of snap. I'm gonna try a 38" tire next, maybe a 40".
Get the 5.13's if your truck won't see much pavement, or go with the 4.88's for a daily driver(with biga** tires
)
That's my two cents...
Nice truck, by the way,99_Maroon
EDIT:Here's a link to a thread about big trucks with big gears.
