I have a 2001 f150 85k miles, I'm thinking of servicing the transmission. I had the dealer do it at around 40-50k (full flush) Now I 'm thinking of servicing the tranny again. Should I have it flushed again? Or is that just asking for problems? The tranny has never had any issues and I wan't to keep it that way. Or should I just drop the pan and replace the filter and add fluid? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank-you. RH

 

I would drop the pan, change the filter and add the required 6 or 7 qts of fluid. That is, unless the fluid looks dirty or burned, then I would drain ir all.

and Im sure you're safe going either way. Just don't overtorque the pan bolts when putting the pan back on. Ask me how I know. :o

What type of filter would you guys reccomend? How much are they approx?

 

If the filter has been changed once you probably dont need to change it again, its usually only recommended on the first time into the trans to recover break in debris.

 

The 2001 may have a torque converter drain plug too - if it does, drain it.
