Calling All Dads...Help me show up my son

I bought my son a used 1997 Ford 150. It was in mint condition. He blew the engine and had it replaced. $5k. Next, he was driving through town and bent over to pick up his cell phone. The damn driver in front of him had the ***** to stop for an old lady in the cross walk. Who would have thought??? He rammed the driver. Left and right quarter panel, gone. Hood gone, bumper, gone. lights and grill gone.
I told him we could work together and fix it as the total body shop cost would be $5k again. He said no way drove it for 2 years. Now, he has a new truck and gave the F150 to me. There was a day when i was good at fixing cars and i am going back to that day. I need an F-150 front end blow up to see the parts and places to go to get them? junkyard? internet? paint before i install or after. It is a good truck and I need and want one. Please help with any thoughts. 5lewis@comcast.net

well im not a dad but you could go to the salvage yard if you have a yard that you can go pull the parts you can get them WAY cheap like i paid 30 for the rear bumper on a 98 came with towing bracket and was in perfect condition if you have a yard around you called pull a part that is your best bet cause they are dirt cheap

Theres a place called google, that has an images tab that you could find all of the front end pictures you need. Just make sure to be year specific in your search

97/98's have a different front end than the 99+. A lot of guys swap to the 99+ front end so if you want now would be the time. I would hit up a junk yard. the fenders and hood will work from any 97-03. If you order a catalog from LMC it breaks it down pretty good. Or go to their website.

If you need some decent headlights and corners, let me know. I'll sell them to ya cheap. Otherwise, hit the junk yards, alot of them do the pull the part yourself so you can see exactly how it comes apart too!

I noticed he has a 97, so he needs to see what his production date is, as the 97's had two different headlight assemblies. To ensure he has the right one. If not a header panel swap may have to be done to accommodate the available heads

Personally, I'd sell it on, and if you are truly interested in a 97-03 buy one that hasn't been wrecked, blown motor and who knows what else.

If you don't mind paying for new parts LMC Truck sells most replacement parts for these trucks.

If you have some auto salvage yards in your area, I would check there first. At a local yard in my area parts are very cheap. I think I paid 26 dollars for a new front bumper for my dad's truck.

go to the big pull-a-part, pick-a-part, pull-a-part etc. Sometimes they even have sales on holidays.

You are going to put more into it than it is worth. I would have told my son "No Thanks" and let him pawn the wreck off on a junk yard or told him to trade it in on his new truck.

I bought a 2003 F150 XL with just bare bones setup that the girl before me wrecked the front end by hitting a barrier ($500 for a running truck with 62K miles - I love Craigslist). I went to Certifit here in town but they do have a website you can order from. I got the front core support, left/right fenders, headlight and turn signal and a new honeycomb grill for $300 out the door with taxes. Good fit and great prices for brand new OEM style parts.

You shouldnt have a problem putting together used good parts from either craigslist or yards for under $400 bucks for hood, both fenders and a bumper. Around here fenders go for $40 each, hoods $80 and I dont remember what bumpers are. I would uprade to the 99+ bumper and grill. A few hundred in paint should keep you under $1000. You should post some pictures though. If a front end collision took out bother fenders, hood, grill, lights, bumper and whatever else... The core support will most likely need replaced which requires cutting and spot welding. The damage may be worse than I'm thinking.
