Valve Noise

My '00 5.4L w/269k make a quite noticeable clicking noise for about 3-5 sec only when givin gas from starting from around #2 cylinder. It clicks for a few secs then its gone after building up oil pressure, would there be an oil pressure issue around #2 valves? Been using syn 5-20 since new and had no engine issues, is it just old age?

First thing to do is make sure you aren't about ready to eject a spark plug. Feel the top of each cop while running, if you feel any vibration, pull it and retorque the plug to 28 ft/lb.

Its been doing this for many months now and ive just changed the intake(crossover leaking) and checked the plugs then and they were good and tight. Just happens at start up after sitting for a few hours or overnite and increases with engine speed then quickly shuts up!

If this is only at start-up, what oil filters are you using. It sounds like the oil is draining back down to the pan causing a dry start-up. If using a Fram, I suggest you go back to a Motorcraft.

Im using Purolator Pure One(has anti drainback valve), does sound like dry start but only near #2 cylinder.
