285 70 17 Nitto TG on stock rim

Hey guys,

I did not find for this specific tire, but I did find in the search that this size tire can fit on the stock 17" ORP chrome wheel? This is a 99 f150 4wd. I am certain the tire will fit, but will it bulge in the middle or anything causing weird wear? I believe this rims are only 7.5" wide.

Thanks!

I have the 285/75-17 on my 17x7.5 wheels(2002-2003 FX4 Wheels) and they work nicely.

Yea you'll be fine with that size tire, just don't try to go any wider than that.

I have 35x12.50's on a stock rim. No bulging and they look good on there.

Anything over 5 inch difference is considered bad (with a good amount of side wall)

I had 315/70-17 on my stock rims, and it was all good. I actually prefer that look over a 12 inch wide rim and that size tire...

Yea you should always have I think at least about an inch difference between the width of the tire and the width of the rim for it to look right, with the tire being wider of course.

I am running 285/70R17 Kumho's on my truck with the stock rims right now.... Looks fine and after about 40k on the tires, tires are wearing as they should be. No problems with this set-up. I am looking to pick up another set of tires of this size before winter!

If you are running a body lift or susp. you might think of going with a little tall tire if possible. There is still a lot of open space around mine with a 3" PA body lift. Just my $0.02 though.

agreed I ran 33x12.50 coopers on my 93 stock rims and they were fine. looked good. I imagine even back then rims were the same width as on our trucks now.
