Should I be concerned?

Hey guys...been awhile.

I just changed my oil in my truck. The last oil change was about 13-14 months ago,& I change the oil every 5000 miles. So as you can see I don't drive my truck THAT much. When I went to fill the empty container for recycling I ONLY filled 1 5qt jug up and had room to spare in it. I know our trucks take 6 qts with a filter change. I was probably off about 1.5 qts. I know the oil filter holds oil, but I did drain most of it into my pail. It was awful heavy though!

So, my truck does not drip a drop of oil and has never burned oil (to my knowledge). This was the 145K mile oil change. I did have an exhaust manifold leak that just got fixed about 3 months. Would that cause it to burn some oil? Every oil change I have done, I have had to fill 2 jugs to take it to be recycled...so I'm getting the 6 qts back!

Any ideas?

Get a new FORD PCV vaalve and start CHECKING your oil. look for leaks check the starter see if the starters covered with oil common for head gaskets to fail on these engine. Thats where they leak..

My '97 5.4 has always used a quart or more between oil changes (I've had it since new). As did my 5.8 before that. I've never had that issue with any of the 6 bangers I've had over the years so I figured it was just a Ford V8 issue.

Now this is a long shot, but just in case you didn't notice. Most of the oil now comes in 5 qt jugs (not 4 qts). This just started a couple of years ago. If you weren't paying attention, that could explain your one full jug issue.

I would suggest that you change your oil twice a year though even with the low miles you're putting on it.

all good long lasting motors will use oil. Every motor DOES use oil just depends how much. 1 quart every 5k miles is not bad. My truck uses about 1 quart every 3k miles.

AND THIS NONSENSE JUST KEEPS GOING ON!
18 F150, 5L, 44K AND NO ISSUE.
No use explaining anything because it flies in one ear and out the other.
Hints;
12 to 1 compression ratio,
Oil is sprayed on the undersides of the pistons from 18 on, a little more oil on the cylinder walls maybe,
How hard it's driven etc.
Ah, but that don't make a difference do it?
Stop the compairison to other older motors.
What do you expect a dealer to do?

WHY IS IT NOT REVELENT?

IF not, remove the related thread function if it causes these replies to be misplaced..
A lot of ignorant people about the subject of oil use!.

I think this is the thread where your comment would be a lot more appropriate, as it's about exactly what you have - a 2018 5.0. This is the 97-03 forum.
