Pulsating Electrical System

First time on forum
I own 2000 F-150, 5.4, v-6, 5-speed manual trans., 190 k miles. Never worked on cars before. Had this truck brand new, 11 years. Now starting to have problems, figure it's a good time to learn.

I've replaced battery, spark plugs and oxygen sensor on driver's side manifold in recent months. My check engine light recently came on. Shortly after, the battery icon started pulsating faintly. Within 2 weeks, the pulsating became stronger and included headlights, dash lights and overhead. Checked battery cables and connections, seem to be okay. The pulsating is now very strong, worse in idle. Truck stalled in idle earlier this week but started right back up.
Would like to fix it myself if I can.
Any one recognize this problem?

I've read these forums before and you guys really know what you're talkin' about. Wanted to put this in front of you guys before taking the truck somewhere.
Thanks.
Barlow

Better look into the Alternator health by test and replace the battery if it is 11 years old and clean the cable ends.
Do the whole job well or it will just haunt you until you do.
Look at your post. Is your truck a 5.4 or a V6 (4.2)?
Good luck.

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator is acting up to me. If I remember right, they are built into the alternator, which would mean replacement. Does the voltage gauge fluctuate when the fading is accuring? Not bad considering it has 190k and the minimum maintenance you have had to do over the years.

Parts stores can test the battery and alternator in the truck in the parking lot free.
