2002 intake gasket manifold replacement???'s
up under the hood the other day and noticed a small leak around the intake manifold gasket near the thermostat housing. Anyone ever tackled the removal and replacement of the lower intake manifold gasket on a 4.6? looks like a few things are gonna have to come off to get to them. if any of you have replaced the gaskets, what brand/type gaskets and where you got them would be a great help too.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

I've got 30k on a set of felpro's and no issues. Yeah, there are a few things that need to come off. It is fairly straight forward, just takes some time. You will want to make sure everything is as clean as it can get before the removal. Don't want anything falling down into the heads. Make sure the head/intake mating surface is cleaned spotless before the new gasket goes on... etc. Change the plugs while your in there also.
intake removal
Yeah, Ive used Felpro in the past with no issues. the only issue seems to be trying to find all the gaskets. I will be changing the plugs since i will have it all apart anyway. Motorcraft Plugs- they have about 50k on them now.
Finally got all the parts in the other day. Took me a great while to do a lot of underhood cleaning once everything was apart. Took my time with a shop vac hooked up while i cleaned around the intake valves. Took me a great while to clean up all the carbon/varnish buildup that was in the intake. All the intake from the filter to the valves is clean now. EGR, IAC, Throttle body, and all related parts were carefully cleaned and returned to service with all new Felpro Gaskets. Injector o rings were replaced as well as spark plugs. With the intake removed, it is hell of a easy to change plugs and get them torqued correctly! All put back together, she turned over on the first crank!!!!!
There was a little stumble for a few seconds, but that was probally the air in the fuel lines making it's way through. Now, time to change oil, flush the radiator and change transmission fluid. then my ol' girl will be right as rain again
