Black grille shell help!

hey guys i'm new to the forum!
I have a chrome grille shell assembly on my 2000 f150.. I have been searching high and low for a black one... They always come with an insert that isnt made to come off. (i have a black billet insert) Does anyone know of a place where they just sell the shell or where they sell the insert but i can take off? Any help would really be appreciated..

Probably just cheaper to paint it. Sand the chrome down a little bit, use some self etching primer, and then paint it black.

grille inserts

craigslist is a good place to look. LMC truck also sells the grilles for about $70 new-black unpainted. also a couple of other styles of grilles for sale in their catalog.

Would this look good.? Significant difference? All local painters won't paint it since it's a chrome base

Where do you reside? I know where there is a shell sitting that probably could get cheap for you.

Before you buy from LMC, you should try painting it yourself with rattle cans. If your decent with a spray can you could have the grille your wanting for around $10 vs. $70 for the LMC one. Plus you get that pride from being able to say you did that yourself.

I did mine myself, first time I didn't prime it and it started to chip after a month. Second time I scuffed it and then used self etching primer and its been going strong for about 6 months now.

Unfortunately I am too stubborn and like the job done right and I want it to last since it's the front end and will probably have debris hitting it and probably chip after time. I have an extra rear bumper that's chrome that I need to make black. I think I will try my luck with that one by myself

Have the rear bumper powder coated. My buddy did things on his silver about 3 years ago still looks great.

Or maybe try coating the bumpers and grille with spray cans of bedliner? It's just an option I'm throwing out there. Plus it's kinda hard to mess up! haha

so i painted my bumper pad and valance black with spray can ! Looks real good! Leaving for vacation tomorrow and have the steel bumper at the powdercoat. Also took off the grille shell and realized the shell and grille are one piece. Or at least i think so. Instead of being bolts holding in the grille, its some sort of stud with just a circle hole on top.. can i take this off?
