Blend Door Issue

First off, yes I have searched, and found nothing along the lines of what Im looking for...

Ok, here we go. Took the truck in today to get the coolant recharged, as I believed that was the problem. Symptoms that led me to this are as follows: When I initially start truck, the air is cool, not cold, but shortly after driving (less than a block) it goes hot. Remains hot thereafter. I had read that this was commonly the freon being low. Well the guys at the local shop I take things to when Im stumped said that the blend door/actuator is crap. So I either need to replace it or something I am missing.

Anyone got any input? If it is indeed the blend door, can anyone give me a shortcut to getting to it without tearing the entire dash out?

I have the same problem in mine, blend door is bad and the compressor too. I've been looking for a while and read through the haynes manual section on it and the only way I can see is to remove the dash.

You have to remove the dash. You also might want to think about replaceing your heater core while your in there. You don't want to do it twice. There are guys here who can provide detailed instructions with pics.

Use "heater core" in your search and some good posts will come up.

Try that one to start.

Good news folks... Its 103 with heat index here, and my a/c is now fully functional. I checked the blend door, using the heater treater method, and after pulling onit, got it to swing over, and the air was ice cold (a nice feeling). So I swapped the switch with one out of my old Mercury Sable, and that did nothing, thus I ruled it down to the actuator. Went and got a new one, got it in today, and were up and going again.

I, as well, have a black truck. Heat in the high 90's, index being 110-120.
