changing u joints

changing u joints

so i need new u joints. in both my 89 and 97. problem is idk how ..
i know how to check them but is there any how tos on how to change them?

im not feeling any vibrations when i drive but when i put my truck into gear it makes a sound and when i take off from a stop sometimes the back end drops and makes the same sound but no vibrations. should i still change them or is there another problem?

I used a ball joint press to change mine. i had never done them befor. its a heck of a job but it was worth it.

my friends uncle has one that i can use. just trying to figure out if i need to change them

just done mine yesterday. all it took was a 12mm socket a ratchet to drop the driveshaft. After out I took a socket that was the same size as the ujoint cap and used this to drive it out. on the other side use a socket that is big enough for the cap to go into. total time was about 45 min from unbolt to bolt back in.

sweet how much did it run you and what u joints did you use

I used a vice to press them out. It's not an easy job. Take your time, don't rush.

im not gonna rush as soon as i get my exhaust problem fixed im gonna get to work on them. im gonna do my 89 f150s first so when i do the 97s ill know what to sorta expect

Dont remember what they were but for both was around $50
