I have a severe power steering fluid leak, but its not leaking from my pump.

Can anyone tell me why its leaking from this area, and what would be the best thing to do.

this may be the original steering box and the seals are leaking from age and wear. or something may have damaged it recently in a single blow?

 

So that box is the steering box? I didn't hit anything, that i know of, there are no scuff marks or damage. Is there seals that i could replace on that unit?

 

yeah there is a seal for that. I know you need a special puller tool to get the pitman arm off dont know about what it takes to get the seal out and in. Seals only 5-6 bucks at rock auto. Might wanta just replace the pitman arm while you got it off didnt look but the last time I bought one seems like it was around $40

 

hey thats the exact same thing my truck did today. autozone has the whole gearbox for 145 bucks im just getting the whole box its been feeling funny for a while.

 

sector shaft seal. Take the pitman arm off of the steering box and it is just like every other seal. pry the old one out and tap the new one in. Sometimes it is easier to take the whole steering box out. IF you take you box out do not spin the steering wheel.
