On my '97 w/ the 4.6L I bought it w/ 92K on it. Ran fine for a little while then
Between 120K & 185K (sold it @ 185K) I replaced

*Starter
*Altenator
*Battery
*Coils/Plugs
*Fuel Filter
*Ignition Switch Push Rod (When you turn the key, there's a rod in the steering collumn that it pushes, the rod broke)
*Various hoses/belts obviously...

So far on the '03 w/ 5.4L (I havent quite had it a year):

Bought with 114K on her Now at 123K

*Bad coil/plug (need to have them all done soon)
*Fuel filter
*Rear Window Seal

Bought it new and had some minor work done in 124,000 miles.

Question, has anybody replaced a bulb, any bulb?
I haven't had so much as a license plate bulb go out on this truck, in twelve years.
That's kinda creepy.

When it stops raining I'll get my records out of the glovebox and see if the dealership has ever replaced a burned bulb I didn't know about.

I'll try my best at remembering:

-Lower ball joints, 80k km's after 3yrs
-Tie rods, all but 1 factory ones bit the dust
-Tranny, o/d went at approx 195k km's
Pinion seal on rear axle leaked, warranty fix
-door lock actuators, one maybe 3 yrs ago, the other 5
-1 door lock switch
-blend door in 2005?
-radiator, on 3rd now, good since 2003 or 2004
-alternator, replacements never as good as original, on 4th or 5th
-DPFE on engine, no big deal
-a/c compressor, 2007 replaced that and everything else
-Coil on plug, #3 went and I replaced the whole set in 2006?

That's about it, almost 250k km's on it and some stuff mentioned might be just maintenance related like switches, they go, not if but when. 2000 with a 5.4 4x4 owned since new, nov. 1999.

Bought my 97 in 2001 with 62,000 miles on it. I don't recall the exact times or miles when they went out, but here is what I have had to do to mine in the 10 years and additional 163,000 miles I've put on the truck.. (note.. Not in chronological order either..)

#4 coil (heater hose was leaking on it)

IAC

alternator

starter

battery

pass side sway bar mount

rear axle seals

rear U joint

pass side exhaust manifold studs (drivers side has a busted stud too, but not replaced yet..)

cab electric for pwr windows, locks, brake lights re-wired because of elec short found in system

plus all the regular maintenance stuff along the way.. Hose, belt, brakes, oil, coolant, etc.

Everything else is still OEM.. All bearings, ball joints, tie rods etc.. Rad, heater core, brake lines, fuel pump, water pump, PS, AC.. All OEM still.

Yeah, I see a lot of recent posters have had to replace their alternators. Mine is still original and I have thought about replacing it just because its 15 years old, but then I think why mess with success. I could have more trouble with a replacement.
I think the same goes with the coil packs. I had one go out after 5 years, and only replaced the one bad one. It was another 10 years until a 2nd one went bad (I've only had 2 bad ones). Had I changed them all when the 1st one went, I may have actually had more problems.

Wait till the alternator goes, then replace it with one that has a lifetime warranty. I got mine at O'Reilly's.

I still have the factory Alt as well. 274,000 miles on it. You can hunt down factory replacements on ebay, when the time comes. If ever...

Bought it with about 72,000 miles on it and replaced the shocks and tires right away. The shocks were shot which is to be expected from OEM's, but i know most people just keep running them anyway.

Had the starter go out at about 87,000 while i was staying out of town so I crawled under it in the snow to start it with a crow bar to get it home.(Luckily I didn't have to make many stops.)

I guess some internet Karma is going on here. I posted this last month and yesterday I find myself out in the driveway replacing my alternator. 15 years it worked, then I mention it in a post and it suddenly fails.

And BTW, what's the deal with the idiot lights? My alternator is not doing anything, and no warning light on the dash. I have the voltmeter on the dash, but there is a little battery light there that I figured should have lit up. I figured it out only because my truck barely started when I was leaving work, and i very nervously watched as the needle on the voltmeter steadily dropped as i was driving. Fortunately I only had a couple of miles to drive because I don't think it would have gone a mile more.
