Power Steering or AC compressor
Power Steering or AC compressor
Hey guys,
My 03 F150 has reached 165k now and im getting some belt squeeling. To describe my situation. When im driving in a parking lot and i turn the wheel i can hear it hissing. When I cut the wheel all the way to either side I hear the scream of a dang banshee. This all happens when my ac is running and the wheel is being turned. When I turn the ac off I dont have a problem. When the ac is running and im at idle i cant hear anything, and finally if im running down the highway with the ac on i can hear a little chirp now and then nothing too major. So which is it? Could it be that having the ac compressor on puts enough tension to get the pump to squeel or is my compressor going out. Like i said, at idle i dont hear anything out of the ordinary. Things that I have done recently is that I have changed a tension pully and the tensioner itself. I have also put on a new belt. Any ideas would be of great help. I really hope it isnt the A/C to me thats much more expensive and we're going into the georiga summer

I just replaced my ac compressor earlier today. Mine was locked up and would barely turn when the ac was on. Started out with that little chirping noise. Then turned in to a constant clanging and roaring, and when I turned on the heat or ac it would cut the truck off. It costs around 170 to replace. But from what you are describing it sounds like the a/c to me. Because that is exactly how mine started...
You were right, it was indeed the air compressor. Went to the part store and picked one up for 180 dollars and plopped it on there. I went ahead and changed the orface tube as well. Thanks for the help
