Check Engine Light
Check Engine Light
Need 97 F150 to pass Calif smog test. Installed new EGR valve, truck runs real well after this. Engine light still on though. Cannot locate any vacuum leaks. WIll a lose fitting gas cap keep the check engine light on?
160,000, miles no leaks and uses no oil at all. original owner.

autozone does sell a cheap $40 scanner so does harbor freight. I been meaning to get one myself the only reason I havent is the truck has the gryphon that tells me codes but I need a scanner for all the other crap I end up fixing..

I bought a cheap code reader on ebay ... best $30 I've ever spent. Not only has it helped me numerous times, but I've loaned it to prety much everyone I work w/ at one time or another (including the boss on several ocasions, which never hurts

Yea, there isn't DTC's that direct you specifically to those components you mention. So that's not possible.
Fuel monitor DTC's can result from a problem with the PCV system. EVAP DTC's may direct you to a specific "area" within the system, but doesn't point to a specific component soley.
